Giving For Thanksgiving

As a school, we learned that one of Rachel's Challenges is targeted acts of kindness.  We have a strong tradition at Hixson Middle School of providing for families in need during the holidays.  Generally, we do this for winter holidays.

What might happen if we came together to support Hixson families for Thanksgiving as well? Could this targeted act of kindness support a culture of kindness in our building and our community?

We believe that we can, and we know that it will!

Our goal is to work together to provide Thanksgiving meals for 10 Hixson families.  Our counseling department will be collecting the following to complete each Thanksgiving food basket:

  • 1 turkey or ham
  • 1 container of mashed potatoes or stuffing
  • 2 cans of vegetables
  • 1 package of dinner rolls
  • 1 dessert
  • 1 basket for the food
We'll need to collect all of these items by Friday, November 22nd so we can organize these for our families to pick them on November 25th and 26th.

Dr. Heisserer will work to send a daily update until we have met our challenge (and so you know what we might still need).

Join us in responding to Rachel's Challenge to create targeted acts of kindness!
