Hixson PTO Meeting
Meeting Minutes
3/11/2014
6:30 p.m.

Dr. Jason Heisserer, 2 staff, and 3 parent/guardians in attendance
I. Principal Remarks

Dr. Heisserer discussed the importance of Rachel’s Challenge and the positive change that he is seeing in the building. There are no funds available for it to continue next year, as of now. He also discussed that conferences had started and he encouraged everyone to buy a cupcake, which is a fundraiser for the school. Also, MAP testing will be in April.
II. PTO meeting

November meeting minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s Report

·         Lisa Liss reported that our balance is $13,955.84. There was an unexpected expense of $600 for the PE Department. We still need to raise funds to cover the submitted PTO Teacher Grants. We have created a PayPal account and sent out an appeal to parents but it did not generate as many donations as needed. The PayPal button can be found on Dr. Heisserer’s blog site (http://hixsonmiddleschool.blogspot.com/ ) or a check (made out to Hixson PTO) can be sent to the office.
Counselor’s Report

·         Sarah Bodi and Linda Peterson further discussed the importance of Rachel’s Challenge. The program costs $4,000-5,000 and has no funding for next year. They suggested a Parents-Night-Out dueling piano fundraising event.  The event will be a joint venture in which proceeds will be divided to help provide funds for Rachel’s Challenge and help with PTO Teacher Grants. Steger parents should also be included in the invitation.

Follow up- The PTO is scouting venues and working on details. It will be held on an evening in May. Watch for updates in the near future.
