Hello Hixson Families,
It's hard to believe that we are approaching the end of October already! It seems as if time has flown by and we are well into the school year. The pace in the building has picked up as we get deeper in the year with field trips, programs and activities. Thank you for a great week of parent teacher conferences. We know that because our kids are insanely busy, it takes some maneuvering with schedules to fit everything in. We appreciate the face to face connection that conferences allow us to make with everyone.

Beyond Measure Documentary
The Webster Groves School District is excited to bring the
film Beyond Measure to the Hixson Middle School auditorium on Wednesday,
October 25 at 7 p.m. From the makers of Race to Nowhere, Beyond Measure follows
a new vanguard of educators across the country who are pioneering a fresh vision
for American schools. Pulling from expert research in education, child
development, and cognitive and neuroscience, these leaders are creating a new
type of classroom. They're leading schools that redirect our focus away from
homework, prizes, top grades and test scores. And they're making room for
curiosity, engagement, creativity, collaboration and independent thinking. By
putting innovative models into practice, they're finding inspiration in doing
things differently - and changing how and what we teach. Interweaving the
expert voices of Sir Ken Robinson, Linda Darling-Hammond and Daniel Pink with
the stories of real communities, 'Beyond Measure' proves that classrooms can
indeed unleash - rather than quash - our students' potential.
Please use the link below to sign up for your admission
ticket. Admission is free and open to the public.

Your generosity and support for student programs is also greatly appreciated!
Hixson Kids on the Move
Our 8th graders have been hard at work figuring out how to filter water to make it safe to drink. This week, they wrapped up their water filter units by testing their filters. It's been great listening to kids problem solve and share conversations with each other about the importance of water. A big take away from many of the student conversations have been that everyone should have access to clean water and how grateful kids are that they can just turn on a faucet and not worry. It was an honor to watch kids learn how to advocate for others and figure out ways to solve a problem that impacts all of us.
Congratulations to Ryan Austin, Phoebe McFarland, Kaitlyn Patrick, Katherine Teeter and Bridget Moehlman for an amazing job in the Variety Children's Theatre's production of The Wizard of Oz. Our resident thespians did an outstanding job acting, singing and dancing in the play. There is incredible talent in our school community and we are proud of their work!
This week, our very own Hixson 8th grader, Gabriella (Gabby) Ramirez is featured in the Webster-Kirkwood Times, sharing why she loves Hixson in their weekly spotlight. Be sure to look for her in the weekly paper. Thank you, Gabby! We appreciate your words and are proud that you are a Hixson kid.
Next week, I'll be out of the building attending a conference on Monday and Tuesday. I'll be back on Wednesday. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to contact your child's grade level principal. Dr. Todd Roberts (8th) and Dr. Aimee Vogt (7th) will be happy to connect with you and provide any support. I will have access to my email so please don't hesitate to email if you need anything.
Have a wonderful weekend reconnecting with each other.
With Gratitude,
Grace
