Upcoming Events and Information

March 30, 2018

Hello Hixson Families,
Welcome back! I hope you had a great Spring Break, spending time with each other and connecting.  It’s hard to believe we are getting ready to shift into April.  The next two months will begin to fly by and I’ll make sure to include the information needed to stay in the loop about all the happenings at school.  Please also be on the lookout for team emails letting you know about field trips and classroom activities.

NCADA Presentation on Juuling, Vaping and E-cigarettes
Vaping is a very popular alternative to smoking and a growing concern for parents and schools.  While the long-term health risks are unknown, there are some things we do know – potential for addiction, nicotine poisoning, chemical ingestion, and financial costs just to name a few.  Learn more about e-cigarettes, vaping, and juuling, their potential risks to teens, and how to talk to your kids about these devices at the all district parent meeting at Hixson Middle School in the auditorium on April 5th at 7:00 PM.

“Let’s Talk” with Board of Education Members
Questions or comments for the Board of Education?  Join some members at the next “Let’s Talk”session from 8:30 to 10:30am on Sunday, April 8th at the Starbuck’s in Old Orchard.  We hope to see you there.

Hixson Summer Learning Transportation
New this year! The district is providing transportation to and from Hixson for the Summer Learning Program. We hope this will provide a better opportunity for all participating Hixson students.

Happenings at the HS

Basketball State Championship Shirts and Hoodies
If anyone was interested in purchasing any basketball state championship shirts or hoodies, but did not do it before the first deadline we have opened up a new online store for late orders with the same items available.  This late order opportunity will be open until next Wednesday, April 4th.  Here is the new link https://webstergroveschampionshipstore.itemorder.com. For those of you who did place orders last week, those orders are now being processed and will be delivered to the high school in a few weeks.

½ Price Cardinals Tickets
The WGHS Baseball team is sponsoring a group outing to Busch Stadium to watch the Cardinals play the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, April 22nd.  Not only is this a fundraiser for our baseball team, but it is a great opportunity for your family to get a great deal on a day at the ballpark.  The cost is only $30 per ticket for seats in the lower level around the right field foul pole.  The face value on these tickets is $61 and in addition to being half price, each ticket also comes with a concession voucher for a jumbo hot dog and a soda and there are multiple promotions going on that day (promotions are listed below).
To purchase tickets contact Kim Edwards in the WGHS Activities Office at 314-918-4176 or email edwards.kim@wgmail.org with how many tickets you would like and how you would like to pay for them.  We can take credit card orders over the phone or in person.

Cardinals vs. Reds: Sunday, April 22nd, 1:15 start time
Tickets will cost $30 each (50% off regular price of $61)!

Retirement
Mr. Jim Griffard, our social worker, has announced his retirement at the end of the 2017-2018 school year.  We wish Mr. Griffard well and thank him for his 20 years to Webster students and families.  Mr. Griffard expresses his sincere gratitude for the years together and for the good things accomplished together for students.

Have a great weekend reconnecting with each other.

With gratitude,
Grace
