St. Louis Blues Future Goals Program™
Blues visit Hixson Middle School to
celebrate Hockey Scholar students!
Students at Hixson Middle School are participating in the Hockey Scholar™ program provided by the St.
Louis Blues, the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA), and the
National Hockey League (NHL®). This hockey-themed educational course
is part of the NHL & NHLPA Future
Goals™ Program.
Hockey Scholar™ takes
students on an exciting educational journey to learn the science, technology,
engineering and math present in the game of hockey. Students guide their team
as they complete twelve learning modules that educate and test their knowledge
on core STEM concepts covering data analysis, geometry, life science and
physical science topics. These topics come to life through real-life hockey
examples that include the dynamics of the ice surface, equipment design,
athletic performance, and geometric and energy considerations to how the game
is played.
Hockey Scholar maps to state
math and science standards and is freely available to elementary and middle
schools across North America. The course was developed by Washington,
D.C.-based EVERFI, the critical skills education leader that has certified more
than 12 million learners.
On Wednesday, November 7th current Blues players and street hockey team will
be visiting Hixson Middle School students to learn how STEM can be applied in
the sport of hockey by participating in a Hockey
Scholar™ group discussion and hockey clinic. The goal of this event is to have the
players engage with students who are using the course, and participate with
students in a street hockey clinic to bring the STEM concepts to life.
