Hello Hixson Family!
It has been a great week at HMS! Our 8th graders have finished up state MAP testing-congratulations on a job well done! Our 7th grade students started their testing today with a bang! (see MAP update below).
This week, our 7th and 8th grade bands held two amazing performances, we are so proud of all of your talent, dedication, and accomplishments. Feedback from the concerts was extremely positive! Several parents stopped to mention how professional the students sounded and added that they enjoyed the evening like a night out at a concert! Students in 7th grade Art are studying the form and function of pottery. Team Harmony won a grant to assist them in purchasing a 3-D pen (lower right corner of image) for students which creates 3 dimensional objects in mid air. It is important to take the time to celebrate the learning and great accomplishments of our students as we enter the last weeks of the school year.

4/29: Fine Arts festival, Hixson/Cafeteria, 6:30 pm
5/6: Track Day @ Hixson (am)
5/8: Half Day for students (PD Day), dismissal at 12:00
8th Grade Celebration
It is our goal to maintain the tradition of a special event to recognize our 8th grade students and celebrate their accomplishments in middle school as we wish them luck and proudly send them off to experience all that high school brings. 8th grade recognition will take place on the evening of Wednesday, May 20th. We will hold recognition ceremonies by team in both the gymnasium and the auditorium. Journey and Quest will each hold their recognition ceremonies at 5:30 pm, one team in the gym and one in the auditorium. Innovation and Synergy will each hold their recognition ceremonies at 7:30 pm, one team in the gym and one in the auditorium. We feel the smaller events with the team focus will allow a more personal recognition for students and their families, while being able to accommodate our students’ families and loved ones at the celebration events. Thank you for your support of your 8th graders, we are certainly extremely proud of them and look forward to recognizing and celebrating their efforts!

MAP Update
Two of our seventh grade teams began MAP testing this morning. Seventh grade students will be taking the MAP on their school-issued Chromebook. It would be most helpful if students charged their Chromebook every night and brought headphones to school. We will have extra Chromebooks and headphones on hand, if needed.
