Arrival Procedures and Other Important Information

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Yesterday, you received a “reminder” from me that students shouldn’t arrive here more than 30 minutes before the beginning of school. My reminder concerned a plan developed over the summer to improve safety at Hixson by providing 30 minutes of adult supervision for those students who arrive early. Unfortunately, I learned that the plan hadn’t been communicated in a timely fashion. Because some parents will need additional time to make adjustments, we are going to offer a grace period through Oct. 3, during which you can leave your child here earlier than a half hour before classes. Sharin Davis, our in-school suspension aide, has agreed to supervise students during this limited period. We encourage you to use this extra time to seek other options than leaving your child here before 8 a.m.

After Oct. 3, we ask that you don’t drop your children off before 8 a.m. We won’t have adults available to ensure a safe environment for all until that time. This change brings Hixson in line with other schools in the district, which only have staff members available for supervision a half hour before school begins, and will help us maintain a safe and orderly climate for learning. Open House

Open House is this Thursday, August 18th. During the evening, you will walk your child's schedule and meet his/her teachers.

It will be most helpful if you have a copy of your child's schedule. If you do not have one, we will be happy to give you a copy beginning at 6:00. Our open house activities will begin promptly at 6:30, following the schedule below:
