Hixson Highlights - August 8, 2016

We enjoyed seeing many of you last week at registration! If you were not able to attend registration, you may visit the office to fill out required forms and pick up your child's schedule. The school office is open from 8:00 to 3:30 every day this week.

Please remember that vaccination s need to be up-to-date before we are able to give your child a schedule. School-aged children must be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, rubella, mumps, hepatitis B, and varicella. All 8th grade students are required to be immunized with a TDAP vaccine and the first dose of the meningococcal (MCV) vaccine.

Below are several back-to-school announcements from the district and a clarification about computer use at Hixson.

Computer Usage Clarification

There are three options for computer use at Hixson:
  1. Computer insurance is purchased; your child is able to take his/her computer home
  2.  Computer insurance is NOT purchased and you will be held responsible for any repairs or replacement costs of the computer;  your child is able to take his/her computer home
  3. Computer insurance is not purchased and you do not agree to be held responsible for any repairs or replacement costs of the computers. This option does NOT allow your child to take his/her computer home. Computer use will be at school only.
**Options 1 and 2 require your signature on the insurance form before your child will receive his/her computer.**

School Supplies

If you purchased a school supply kit from 1st Day School Supplies and were not able to pick it up during registration, we will give it to your child's first hour teacher. Our school supply list may be found by clicking here

Oasis Tutors Sought

The district is seeking adults who would like to volunteer with the OASIS tutor/mentor program, which shares the gift of reading with young children. The requirements are a love of children, willingness to commit one hour a week to read and write with a child and completion of a training program.

The training sessions run August 22, 23, and 25 at First Congregational Church of Webster Groves. The hours are 9 a.m. to noon. For more information, please call 961-1233.

Back-to-School BBQ

The FREE back-to-school BBQ sponsored by WGSD and the Alliance for Interracial Dignity will be on August 13th from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. at Ivory Crockett Park. Bring your favorite outdoor games along with a lawn chair or blanket. We hope to see you there!
